Ask your insurance company these questions, preferably by email so that you have their answers in writing:

1. Is my claim covered?
2. What are my policy limits?
3. Are there exclusions in my policy that apply to this claim?
4. Will you (the insurance company) pay all the necessary costs I incur to put my home back the way it was?
5. When can I expect the first check (and how much will it be), and when will the remaining check(s) be issued?
6. What happens if my loss exceeds my policy limits?
7. Are you authorized to settle my claim? (Get the name, title, phone number of the person who is authorized)
